Beach grasses, sand, fence and sky. Simple elements create beautiful scenes all up and down the Outer Banks beaches.

A herd of wild horses lives on the Outer Banks. It's truly a unique experience to see horses living and grazing wild. They used to wander around the houses - sometimes people would see them wading in their pools! However, too many horses were getting hit by cars, so the herd was moved to the northern beaches past the end of the road in Corolla.

Take a 4-wheel-drive excursion to the northern beaches to see these beauties! A local company offers guided tours. You can also drive a 4WD vehicle on the beach, either yours or rent a Jeep locally. Talk with one of the locals about driving up there, otherwise you risk an expensive tow back to the main road.

We call this horse "Surfer Dude" - he sort of looks like a surfer with the shock of blond hair. Couldn't you just picture him on a board, hanging ten?

Well, if you're gonna ride on the beach, there's nothing like BIG tires!
